      Hi Friend,

The NCCU Alumni Association Memorials and Awards Committee is proud to announce Alumna                    Jacqueline Beatty-Smith as the 2025 Alumni Founder’s Award (Lifetime Achievement) Recipient.

🌟 About Alumna Jacqueline Beatty-Smith

Jacqueline β€œJacque” Beatty-Smith was born in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, and raised in Tomahawk, North Carolina, by her loving parents, Larry Nick and Nell Beatty. She is married to Alumnus Richard D. Smith, an Alumni Ambassador and current Vice President of the National HBCU Alumni Association Foundation. He is also a former executive at Adsystech Incorporated.

A proud graduate of North Carolina Central University, Class of 1979, Alumna Beatty-Smith has exemplified the true spirit of an Eagle Alumni Ambassador. She has served as a tireless advocate for NCCU, consistently wearing her maroon and gray and representing our institution with grace, professionalism, and prideβ€”always echoing the timeless motto of our founder, Dr. James E. Shepard: β€œTruth & Service.”

Through her involvement in student career counseling, recruitment, retention, and professional development, she has mentored and empowered generations of Eagles. Her commitment continues through the Student Engagement, Employment and Mentoring (SEEM) and Civic Engagement and Advocacy Committee (CEAC) at both the National and local chapter levels.

Together with her husband, she established the Richard and Jacqueline Smith Endowment and the Beatty-Daye-Smith Family Education Endowment, helping alleviate tuition burdens for deserving students and expanding access to higher education.

πŸ•ŠοΈ A Legacy of Truth and Service

Alumna Beatty-Smith is the embodiment of the Alumni Founder’s Award valuesβ€”lifelong dedication, integrity, and vision. Her legacy spans decades of service, leadership, and generosity, all of which have helped shape alumni communities, support future leaders, and advance the mission of our beloved university.

Her unwavering commitment to education, equity, and community empowerment reflects Dr. Shepard’s vision of excellence, access, and transformative leadership. As a trailblazer, mentor, and philanthropist, she continues to uplift the NCCU legacy through scholarship, service, and an enduring spirit of Eagle pride.

We are honored to recognize such a worthy recipient who has truly lived a life aligned with NCCU’s founding values.
